With a few minutes drive from Buggiano you can reach Lucca, the beautiful city enclosed within the walls that make it unique and loved all over the world.
Just its walls are its distinctive character, are entirely walkable(cars can not access) or maybe by bike or with the characteristics Rickshaw 4 wheels that you can rent.
The route is very green and pleasant, although inserted in a city context; it extends for 4 kilometers and it is very pleasant to live it for a few hours, admiring the city in an elevated position.
Here and there there are hidden corners and “secret” passages, very suggestive for both children and adults.
The center is animated by many churches, so much so that Lucca is often called “the city of a hundred churches”: the Cathedral of San Martino with the splendid funeral monument of Ilaria of the cart of the artist Jacopo della Quercia and the wooden crucifix of the Holy face that inspired the realization of the crucifixes of the churches of Buggiano and Borgo a Buggiano; the Basilica of San Frediano with its wonderful mosaics of Byzantine inspiration or the Church of San Michele.
Do not miss the Fillungo Street, known as the shopping street, with the presence of historical shops and shops, which will take you to the Piazza Anfiteatro.
Here once stood the old Roman forum and on its original elliptical structure have developed the buildings today house characteristic shops and restaurants.
Also not to be missed is the Guinigi Tower, with its roof garden that dominates the city from above.
Lucca is also home to events that attract visitors from all over the world such as the Lucca Comics and games that usually takes place between late October and early November, and the Lucca Summer Festival with concerts by internationally renowned artists who perform in different places in the city.
Train: from Borgo station to Buggiano you can take the train and reach Lucca station in about 25 minutes. Once you get off you can reach the old town with only 15 minutes walk.
By car: from Buggiano take the A11 motorway “Firenze – Mare” towards Viareggio.
